JFK, 35mm, sound, 3 min, 2005 (excerpt)

JFK is a remix of the trailer that Oliver Stone released to advertise his film of the same name. My interest was in changing its pacing to uncover the various levels of verisimilitude present in the film. The images of JFK, Lee Harvey Oswald and Kevin Costner all originated on film, but their degree of believability varies incredibly with the manner in which they represent reality. The footage of Kennedy’s assassination is the most analyzed piece of film in history and also highest grossing in terms of profit vs. investment. I am also interested in JFK’s and Oswald’s assassination as public film documentation of performances. Only Oswald’s murder makes sense and is understood completely and is therefore realer than JFK’s.
Kennedy never died; he is constantly in a state of dying.
